This delicious, pure, fairly traded honey comes from Coffee Farmers in the Chajul region of the Guatemalan Highlands. These farmers learn & practice beekeeping skills in order to produce & sell their honey. This supplements their only other source of income - coffee.
Bees in Chajul are Africanized bees & their hives are kept far from the villages. Beekeepers must often walk long distances up mountains & through untamed forested terrain to tend their hives.
Once they collect the honey, 700 lb. barrels are hand-loaded into a truck to make the treacherous journey from the Highlands to the port.
Buying this Guatemalan Coffee Farm Honey helps supports over 140 Chajulanese coffee families. Thanks to the U.S organization The Coffee Trust for making this beekeeping project possible.
